Sr. Application Scientist

Job Summary

Sales: Collaborating with and supporting Area Business Managers, the focus of this position is to produce scientific data and provide current and potential customers with customized information to show how the Company’s products and services benefit their research goals.

Marketing: Partner with Marketing to generate data for customer-facing “science-first” materials to demonstrate/quantify the innovation, features and benefits of AssayQuant Technology. Will also serve as “alpha-tester” for new protocols generated by Discovery Technologies and R&D.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide technical product information for (potential) customers, including comparisons of different tests and applications.
  • Conduct technical presentations and product demonstrations at customer sites and remotely.
  • Collect or generate data for customer-facing “science-first” marketing materials. Key initial step is to organize existing data and make available for marketing pieces and on the web site.
  • Collaborate with Area Business Managers to support local prospecting activities.
  • Collaborate with Area Business Managers and customers to resolve product questions, troubleshoot technical issues or provide additional information.
  • Collect and document Voice-of-Customer feedback from sales and customers to improve AssayQuant’s current products and identify opportunities for new products/applications.
  • Keep detailed records of technical reports and customer interactions.
  • Present AssayQuant technology and applications in various scientific seminars and conferences.
  • Participate in national and regional trade show activities.
  • Provide technical support for entire commercial workflow including documents and communications for legal agreements, Sales quotes, Finance invoicing and Marketing materials/eCommerce.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in life sciences discipline (with some exposure to enzymology).
  • 4+ years of lab experience with assay development, preferably enzymatic activity assays.
  • Previous experience as a Field Application Scientist or Marketing Application Scientist preferred.
  • Highly motivated and self-driven – ability to work in a fast-paced, interdependent working environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques and effectively multitask to achieve goals efficiently.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office/Access (familiarity or use of a CRM is a plus).
  • Demonstrated organizational, documentation and oral communication skills with ability to work effectively independently and as a team. Must have proficiency with 1) Combining multiple inputs efficiently into a cohesive proposal with prioritized ranking for execution, 2) Organizing data sets and working across teams to address gaps, and 3) Presenting clearly and effectively on scientific/technical/methods topics, both internally and with current or potential customers.
  • Familiarity with QC and management of consumables and kit products for the Life Science market.
  • Understanding of fluorescence- and microtiter plate-based reader assays.
  • Hands on experience using scientific software for data analysis (Excel, XL-Fit, GraphPad Prism, Scigilian or related databases, etc.).
  • Experience with or understanding of automation and liquid handlers.  
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Physical/Mental/Environmental:

  • Position responsibilities are performed both in laboratory and office environments.
  • Performs experiments requiring repetitive pipetting using eye-hand-finger coordination and steady grasping/holding of small instruments and laboratory plates.
  • Operates gauges, dials and other settings on laboratory equipment requiring precision movement and focus/concentration.
  • Operates a personal computer and standard office equipment, either sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Must be able to balance multiple priorities at the same time and change priorities, if needed, in a responsive manner based on available information.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with others and understand and communicate scientific information as needed, individually and in groups.
