A key component of drug discovery is the evaluation of compound selectivity. Profiling against a broad selection of kinases is conducted with a variety of assay formats and almost all of these are endpoint assays which rely on a single time point with the assumption that the signal at that time is a good estimate of the initial reaction rate.

A continuous assay format offers distinct advantages over the endpoint format because it captures the true reaction rate directly from the slope of the progress curve with many time points, yielding much higher confidence in this critical parameter. With these additional kinetic observations, you can get deeper insight into the compound mode of action.
